Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the blockchain company behind the Cardano network, says the much-anticipated Vasil hard fork is “getting closer” after revealing the health of three critical indicators affecting the mainnet -Update will trigger.
In a Twitter thread published on Aug. 25, IOHK shared its latest “rollout status” of the Vasil upgrade with its 265,800 followers, with updates on “three critical mass indicators” that will determine when the mainnet update will roll out.
These include that 75% of the mainnet blocks were produced by 1.35.3 nodes, around 25 exchanges were updated (representing 80% of the liquidity), as well as the top 10 mainnet dapps were also updated.
On Thursday, the blockchain company noted that Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) running the latest node 1.35.3 now account for 42% of mainnet block production in the current epoch, which is now more than half of the required 75% .

IOHK also noted that one of the world’s largest exchanges, Binance, has reportedly upgraded its Cardano nodes to the latest version. The company has targeted about 25 exchanges to upgrade their nodes as it would account for about 80% of the total liquidity of its native token.
Regarding its decentralized mainnet applications (DApps), IOHK confirmed that they will continue to stay close to many of the DApp teams on Cardano, with four out of ten already confirming that they are active against node 1.35.3 on the pre-production testnet testing .
IOHK also shared that no new bugs have been identified, leaving nine minor bugs to fix – none of which will cause an unintentional hard fork.

The long-awaited Vasil upgrade aims to reduce transaction size and allow more network activity while reducing costs.
After IOHK released a roadmap on May 19 calling for a hard fork on June 29, the Vasil upgrade has been plagued with delays while developers ensure the network transition goes smoothly.
Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson recently responded to criticism that the upgrade was rushed. He suggested that they could delay the launch for months to re-test the already tested and running code, but the DApp developers wouldn’t see it as worthwhile since they’ve already waited so long.
