Canadian search and rescue organization begins accepting Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ethereum ($ETH) donations
A nonprofit, volunteer search and rescue organization supporting the unpaid professional ground search and rescue community, the British Columbia Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA) is now accepting donations in Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ethereum ($ETH).
The organization announced that it is accepting donations in the top two cryptocurrencies by market cap on social media, where it detailed that the crypto assets are being accepted through CanadaHelps, the country’s largest donation and fundraising portal.
CanadaHelps, according to the announcement details, is working with CarbonX to provide “first 100 carbon credits to offset MtCO2wq carbon emissions.” According to reports, the company will continuously buy carbon offsets to cover the emissions of every cryptocurrency transaction it processes.
The announcement adds:
The minimum donation must be $100 or more as this ensures that every cryptocurrency donation made with CanadaHelps is carbon neutral and results in a meaningful charitable gift.
Upon receipt of cryptocurrency donations, BCSARA will immediately convert the funds back to fiat currency to avoid price volatility. Founded in 2002, the organization has provided help, training and equipment to thousands of volunteers around the world.
The organization’s move comes shortly after the Wikimedia Foundation, the organization behind Wikipedia, decided to “stop directly accepting cryptocurrency as a fundraising vehicle” after accepting crypto donations since 2014.
As CryptoGlobe reported, the Shiba Inu ($SHIB) community has proposed the launch of a token donation portal to complement their brand portal.
