Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and a well-known figure in the crypto community, has made headlines with a bold prediction for Bitcoin (BTC).
Hayes, who is known for his unique views on the crypto space, expressed his thoughts on Bitcoin's potential development given the current financial challenges faced by New York Community Bank (NYCB).
Bloomberg reported that NYCB, which is facing significant financial difficulties, had its credit rating downgraded to “junk” by Moody's.
Hayes interprets the bank's struggles and the difficulties of the entire banking sector as indicators of systemic problems in traditional banking. He believes these challenges could lead to greater reliance on cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
The Road to $1 Million: A Bitcoin Rally Postulates
Hayes' perspective is shaped by the view that the conventional banking model faces sustainability problems. He argues that to deal with these challenges, the Federal Reserve could print more money, which would lead to a deeper financial crisis.
In such a scenario, Hayes believes that Bitcoin is a viable alternative and offers some protection from the problems of the traditional banking sector. This outlook is not new for Hayes, who has consistently championed Bitcoin as a hedge against the instability of traditional financial systems.

Arthur Hayes elaborates on his prediction and imagines a scenario in which Bitcoin could rise to $1 million. This prediction is not unique to Hayes, as other prominent crypto personalities, including Jan3 CEO Samson Mow, also hold similar views.
Mow even recently expressed his confidence that Bitcoin could quickly rise to $1 million, possibly within days or weeks. However, he admits that the exact starting point for this increase has yet to be determined.
Hayes' latest comment is consistent with his previous analysis. In a Medium post, the BitMEX co-founder drew parallels between Bitcoin's performance during the March 2023 banking crisis and its possible future trajectory.
Hayes suggested that Bitcoin could see a significant increase after the current challenges, similar to the 40% increase seen in the previous banking crisis.

Halving Events: Catalysts for Bitcoin’s Value Rise
The discussion about the possible price increase of Bitcoin is related to its halving events. These events, which occur approximately every four years, halve the reward for mining new Bitcoin blocks, reducing the speed at which new BTCs are created.
The next Bitcoin halving, scheduled for April this year, will reduce the daily production of Bitcoin from 900 to 450 coins. Historically, these supply reductions have resulted in significant price fluctuations in the value of Bitcoin, lending credence to predictions of significant future price increases.
While enthusiasts like Hayes and Mow are optimistic about Bitcoin's prospects of reaching $1 million, there are voices in the crypto community that are expressing caution. Tuur Demeester, another Bitcoin evangelist, recently expressed skepticism about Bitcoin's ability to reach $1 million by 2028, the next Bitcoin halving after this year.
Responding to a graphic shared by investor Fred Krueger that predicts Bitcoin will reach $1 million by 2028, Demeester acknowledged the unpredictability of markets and their potential to defy even well-constructed models.

Will it take until after summer 2028 for BTC to reach $1 million? I don't know, but I do know that every beautiful model (like this one 🤌) is destined to be destroyed by Mr. Market. https://t.co/GcmhfL2C16
