BitMEX is sending 1 physical Bitcoin (BTC) to the moon, here's how

The BitMEX exchange is about to make history with its planned move to send a physical Bitcoin (BTC) to the moon. As reported According to Finance Feeds, BitMEX's physical Bitcoin will be among 201 payloads from governments, private companies, higher education institutions and NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative scheduled to travel to the lunar surface.

The BitMEX Bitcoin Lunar Mission

According to the report, the BitMEX lunar mission is scheduled to take place on January 8 at 2:18 a.m. ET. The mission is in collaboration with Astrobotic, Bitcoin Magazine and Oxcart Assembly.

BitMEX's goal with its plan to send physical Bitcoin to the moon is to show how the digital currency can revolutionize payments beyond Earth. In addition to transporting Bitcoin into space, this mission is also historically significant as it marks the West's first soft lunar landing since NASA's Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Since Bitcoin is a virtual currency by nature, BitMEX plans to create a coin with a total weight of 43 grams and a market value of $45,000 starting January 8, 2024. The space rocket that will lift the coin is the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Vulcan rocket and will also be integrated into the Peregrine-1 commercial lunar lander.

The launch site is Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, and the Vulcan rocket will begin its journey, orbiting Earth before launching the attached Peregrine-1. The entire action will be televised during the seven days during which the lunar orbit occurs.

“The Bitcoin on the Moon is perfectly preserved for future generations and is a time capsule that captures one of the most significant human innovations and technological advances.” This decisive leap forward is just the beginning of a new era,” said Stephan Lutz, CEO of BitMEX, in a statement.

The Doge-1 lunar mission

Dogecoin and Bitcoin's journey to the moon sets a precedent that could soon become the norm for other Web3.0-related companies in the near future.
