Bitcoin (BTC USD) Miner CleanSpark (NASDAQ:CLSK) shares took a nosedive yesterday, falling 10% in after-hours trading after the company announced an expanded stock offering worth $800 million. The offer is significantly higher than the $500 million deal previously agreed with HC Wainwright & Co.
CleanSpark decision affects other miners
At first, CleanSpark's $500 million ATM offering appeared to be a calculated move to strengthen its position in the competitive mining environment. However, the increased offer to $800 million has raised concerns about share dilution, with a dilution rate of 19% forecast based on the company's market capitalization of $4.2 billion.
Although this strategy is common among listed companies seeking capital inflows, it has significantly shaken investor confidence.
This event has impacted CleanSpark and cast a shadow over the entire Bitcoin mining sector, prompting comparisons to similar ATM agreements from rival Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT) and Marathon Digital Holdings (NASDAQ:MARA).
Despite the short-term downward trend in price action, the Bitcoin halving could be a boon for CleanSpark. CLSK has a competitive advantage with the lowest production cost per Bitcoin while doubling its hash rate through recent acquisitions.
Levels to watch this weekend
From a technical analysis perspective, Bitcoin remains exceptionally bullish in the long term. However, there are some concerns that performance could turn negative in the short term.
Since hitting a new all-time high of $73,734 on March 14, Bitcoin's price performance has been mixed. Between March 14 and March 21, BTC fell -17.5% to the $60,700 value area (a decrease of -$13,000). Since then, bulls have spent the last nine days trying to move back toward the $70,000 area, but bulls have been either unwilling or unable to push higher. Short-term resistance lies at $71,450 while support lies at $60,750.
