The BCSARA has started accepting donations in Bitcoin and Ethereum
The British Columbia Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA), a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that supports the unpaid professional ground search and rescue community, has announced that it is now accepting donations in Bitcoin and Ethereum, the two largest cryptocurrencies.
Crypto contributions are accepted through CanadaHelps, the country’s largest online donation and fundraising platform.
CanadaHelps also partnered with environmental software fintech company CarbonX to offset carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits.
The minimum donation amount is set at $100. All cryptocurrency contributions are converted to dollars immediately.
Founded in 2002, BCSARA has provided aid, trade and equipment to thousands of volunteers. The organization consists of 79 search and rescue groups. The BCSARA rescued 2,100 people, according to its website.
Earlier this month, the Wikimedia Foundation decided to ban cryptocurrency donations due to their negative impact on the environment.
