Zak Carrick-Smith, who grew up in the French Alps, has now won two gold medals and one silver medal in Gangwon
Zak Carrick-Smith continued his historic run with a second gold medal in alpine skiing at the Youth Olympic Games in South Korea.
Carrick-Smith secured the men's slalom title on Thursday, adding to his combined competition gold and silver in the giant slalom.
The 16 year old said: “[This medal] means the world, it's just incredible.
GB also won the mixed team event in curling, securing its third gold medal in Gangwon.
After an 8-6 win against Switzerland in the semi-final, the team consisting of Logan Carson, Tia Laurie, Archie Hyslop and Holly Burke beat Denmark 7-5 after an extra end.
With three gold medals and one silver medal at the Games, it is Britain's best result in a Winter Olympic event.
Although they won a total of five medals at the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics, there was only one gold medal in each.
Carrick-Smith's first gold medal was GB's first Alpine skiing medal at a Winter Olympic event.
After securing the slalom title and third medal, he said: “I wanted to emerge victorious.” [at least] a medal. I was not expecting that.
Carrick-Smith's mother, Emma Carrick-Anderson, competed for Great Britain in four Winter Olympics in Alpine skiing between 1992 and 2002 before moving to the French Alps to work as a ski instructor.
He is coached by Jo Ryding, sister of Dave Ryding, Britain's most successful ski racer, and has a chance of winning another medal on Friday when he competes in the parallel team competition with Molly Burton.
“It’s just incredible,” Carrick-Smith added. “We’re slowly climbing the ladder, we’re becoming more and more known and I’m trying to help with that.”
GB has now won 10 Youth Winter Olympics medals, including five gold medals. Madi Rowlands (ski halfpipe) and Ashleigh Pittaway (skeleton) were the previous champions, both at Lillehammer 2016.
