wait, what is padel? All about the sport that’s coming for Pickleball

Although pickleball was invented just a few years before padel, pickleball didn’t directly inspire padel. Nevertheless, they have some similarities. Both involve a racquet, a ball and a net dividing the playing field, but that’s about the extent of their similarities. The two sports are actually more different than they are alike in their pitches, pitch restrictions, equipment and scoring.

One of the most obvious differences between the sports is the court, as World Padel Insider explains. A padel court has walls (that you can hit the ball on), but a pickleball court doesn’t, and each court has some restrictions. A standard padel court requires four players, two per side, while a pickleball court can accommodate two or four players. However, at a pickleball court, there are certain areas of the court that you are not allowed to enter. These areas are referred to as the “kitchen” or non-volley zone. There are no such restrictions on a padel court.

The equipment and the rating of the individual sports also differ. A pickleball ball is usually made of plastic and has holes, while a padel ball is very similar to a tennis ball. A padel racket also has holes, but a pickleball racket does not. In terms of scoring, padel scoring is exactly the same as tennis, but pickleball scoring is similar to table tennis scoring. Although padel is spreading quickly around the world, there is no rule that says you can’t practice and enjoy both sports.
