Trowbridge Town play their league games at Woodmarsh Stadium
Trowbridge Town needs to make changes at their stadium to avoid the “frustration” of missing out on promotion again, says chairman Andy Meaden.
The non-league club play in the 11th tier of English football and won the Wiltshire Senior League Premier this season.
The team was unable to advance a tier after failing the floor rating review.
A number of works are planned for this summer to prevent the same situation from repeating itself next season.
“If we end up in the right league next season I’m confident we can set the stage and move up next season,” Meaden told ` Radio Wiltshire.
“This club has been down for so long. We can do it on the pitch, now we have to catch up off the pitch.”
Trowbridge finished six points clear at the top of the table after winning 26 of their 30 league games, but the Daykin Estates ground in Woodmarsh, where they play, did not meet the criteria for the club’s promotion to the sixth tier of the non-league structure .
A promotion would facilitate access to more funds and support the club’s desire to play at a higher level.
“Moving to the next level opens up a world of football foundation scholarships, FA.” [Football Association] Grants and we can use that,” Meaden said.
He compared the club to other successful non-league football clubs in Wiltshire, such as Melksham Town and Westbury United, both of whom play three leagues higher.
“We don’t want a Premier League place, we want to take it to a standard where we can emulate what they do,” Meaden added.
“We want to try to catch them in time but right now we have to get to the next level and that’s what’s so frustrating.”
Work planned on site for the closing season includes improvements to the dressing rooms, car park and shelters.
In addition, an application has been submitted to the city council for the installation of floodlights on the ground.
