“I love it so much… and my results are improving, I’m getting fitter, stronger and faster… so why not compete again?”
World’s Fittest Woman Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr today ended speculation she was retiring from the sport that has made her a global superstar.
An absolute giant in the sport of CrossFit, Toomey-Orr cemented her status as the sport’s most dominant athlete by recently winning her sixth Fittest Woman on Earth title.
The former Queenslander now lives in Texas with her trainer/husband Shane and her appeal is such that Instagram’s rich list features the athlete as Australia’s top female athlete.
Speaking to Fox Sports ahead of Sunday’s Women’s Health Women in Sport Awards, award nominee Toomey said she was aware of rumors surrounding her retirement but was also aware of the limited years in which to do her best.
“I’ve been doing this for so many years now and I feel like I could go on like this for 10 more years. I still feel so strong and plan on competing for another year, love it so much,” Toomey-Orr said from her home in Nashville.
“I had some time off and reconsidered what my husband Shane and I wanted to do and we decided why not go again.
“We have been fortunate to create a platform and a career where we can do this together. I’m always trying to get better and I know I’m getting better.
“I’m constantly comparing myself to what I did last year and I can wholeheartedly say I’m getting better results.
“Finding out how far I can really go is what motivates me…it’s a goal that gives me purpose.”
Toomey-Orr is a full-time athlete but easily fulfills the role of part-time life coach.
She knows there may be people with more talent, but no one will work harder.
The 29-year-old also knows how to “find a way” when she’s not feeling 100 per cent – like when she last won the title with a back injury.
“I’ve worked so hard for the past 10 years, so why not keep going? You have a short lifetime at this top level – I will be out of retirement longer than the years I have in competition.
“I want to be the most dominant CrossFit athlete of all time.
“I wouldn’t commit to another year if I didn’t think I couldn’t be fitter and stronger.”
Toomey-Orr is one of many women to wow in a 2022 blockbuster.
For women, sport has become a global language, breaking down barriers and becoming a powerful tool for progress and development worldwide.
Toomey-Orr said, “I’ve always wanted to inspire the younger generation and help them understand that no dream is too big or too small.”
“If you really want to go out there and achieve something, you can. I want to be the best that I can be, but I also hope that I can inspire others to do their best too.
“Whatever that looks like… it’s going to take time and energy and hard work.
“The other message for athletes is don’t be afraid to win.
“Aussies are so athletic and ambitious and we work harder than anyone else in the world and we’re also so humble.
“You feel like Australian athletes don’t want to admit how badly they want something, how badly they want to win.
“It’s okay to admit that you want to do your best.”

The Women’s Health Women in Sport (WinS) Awards returns this Sunday, October 16 at 7:30pm AEDT, with Fox Sports exclusively broadcasting the event, as part of an ongoing commitment to celebrate and advance women athletes, competing from the grassroots to the elite.
The WinS Awards ceremony – now in its tenth year – recognizes women who have made an exceptional impact on their sporting code and inspiring the next generation of sporting talent in Australia.
