That’s what put so much pressure on re-leasing the 222 too: when you’re a big brand with big ambitions and you’ve decided to bring back a model after leaving it on the shelf (for whatever reason) for 30-odd years, bring it back you better return it. And that’s what Vacheron did. Sure, “sports watches” are all the rage right now, but if Vacheron really wanted to capitalize on the hype, it wouldn’t have released this watch — not a 37mm yellow gold replica of a 1977 watch. Instead, it would’ve upped the size a few millimeters , traded in a blue dial and, most importantly, traded gold for stainless steel. We love that it wasn’t. Sure, it’s following a trend, but it’s not as damn obvious as so many new sports watches are.
