The CW and Range Sports have partnered to provide strategy, distribution and programming services for the network's original sports programming slate.
Through the collaboration, Range Sports will develop and build new content and event franchises. It includes programming, branded content, real estate sales, media rights consulting and IP rights for brands for national and local market activations. Range Sports will also leverage talent representation, brand consulting, data and analytics, and world-class scripted and non-scripted production capabilities through parent company Range Media Partners' Range Studios.
Nexstar Media Group acquired a 75% stake in The CW in 2022, with Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global remaining minority partners. Under Nexstar, The CW has increasingly prioritized sports, acquiring rights to ACC college football and basketball, LIV Golf and soon WWE NXT. The network aims to soon offer 500 hours of sports programming per year.
When The CW acquired the rights to NASCAR's Xfinity Series last year, network president Dennis Miller called the six-year deal worth a reported $115 million “a game-changer” for the network.
“By bringing broadcast coverage to every home across the country, Nexstar and The CW are laying the foundation for the next great sports programming engine and we are excited for the opportunity to be part of their outstanding team,” co-president Will from Range Sports Funk and Greg Luckman said in a press release.
Michael Strober, Nexstar's chief revenue officer, praised Range Sports' “wide range of brand marketers and creative power, which will accelerate our efforts to deliver immersive and engaging sponsorship programs to our local and national advertisers.”
