The running of the Tandragee 100 road race in 2024 has been canceled due to ongoing delays in resurfacing part of the 5.3 mile route.
The issue also called into question the planned staging of the event in 2023.
A statement from course director Anne Forsythe on behalf of the North Armagh club said the decision was made with “deep regret”.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the meeting did not take place in 2020 and 2021.
In 2022, the event was canceled following a series of accidents due to persistent rain and deteriorating conditions.
The statement released on Monday evening explained that the organizing club had been “unable to obtain assurances that the necessary renewal of the surface could be carried out in a timely manner to meet the extended deadlines”.
These included the need to contribute to insurance for the staging of motorcycle events in Ulster in 2024 and confirmation of the obligation to apply a road closure order.
“As a club we are very disappointed after many months of lobbying and negotiations, but we are determined to do everything we can to ensure that some level of relaunch occurs at some point in 2024 so that we can recreate this impressive event “in 2025,” the statement said.
The Cookstown 100 road race is scheduled to take place from April 26-27 next year, and the North West 200 from May 8-11.
The Armoy road races will take their usual place on the calendar on the final weekend of July 26th and 27th.
On November 30, a press release from the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Center) said insurance was “90% complete” for the 2024 motorcycling season.
They added that their hope is that they will have “full coverage by the New Year and renewal date.”
In 2023, contributions from the public helped the umbrella organization cover rising insurance costs through the creation of a crowdfunding page.
The MCUI (UC) acknowledged in its statement last month that “insurance will definitely be an ongoing issue in the next few years.”
