Sports shorts: Injunction halts races at Bloomsburg Fairgrounds | Local

BLOOMSBURG – A hearing was recently held in the Columbia County Courthouse on a motion for an injunction from the City of Bloomsburg against the Bloomsburg Fair.

The goal of the petition was to ban the fair from conducting any further car races at the fairgrounds until the fair could demonstrate that races could be conducted within the confines of the 65-decibel limit stipulated in the city’s amended Noise Abatement Ordinance.

On Monday, the judge granted the city’s motion and, per the court’s order, racing will cease at that time. The show is currently evaluating its rights of appeal in relation to this order and will continue to seek damages from the city for its losses related to this temporary suspension of racing.

According to the ` source, Northwestern is hiring veteran college coach Skip Holtz as a temporary special assistant

Northwestern is hiring veteran college football coach Skip Holtz, who won two straight USFL championships with Birmingham, for a temporary role as special assistant to interim head coach David Braun, a person with knowledge of the move told The Associated Press.

The person spoke to the ` Monday on condition of anonymity as Northwestern had not yet completed the hiring process.

Braun was named interim head coach earlier this month to replace Pat Fitzgerald, who was fired following an investigation into allegations of bullying at his program.

The son of former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, Holtz has 17 years of experience as a major college football head coach at East Carolina, South Florida and Louisiana Tech. He is 119-98 overall and had a 64-50 record with six straight bowl wins at La Tech before retiring after the 2021 season.

He also coached UConn for five years before the program made the leap to Division I top division.

Braun was hired by Northwestern in January as a defensive coordinator after coaching at North Dakota State and has no experience as a college head coach.

Holtz’s job at Northwestern is expected to last all season and not interfere with his USFL job, the person said.
