Madisen Skinner of Texas has been named the Honda Sport Award winner for volleyball, announced Chris Voelz, executive director of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).
Presented annually by the CWSA for 48 years to the top female athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, the Honda Sport Award represents “the best of the best in collegiate sports.” The winner of the sports award will be a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year award and the prestigious 2024 Honda Cup, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. CT his new home in New York City.
Skinner was selected by a vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Finalists included Merritt Beason (Nebraska), Rachel Fairbanks (Pittsburgh) and Sarah Franklin (Wisconsin). This is the second consecutive Honda Sport Award winner in Texas volleyball after Logan Eggleston won the honor for the Class of 2023.
Skinner was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 NCAA Final Four after finishing the championship game with 16 kills, two aces and a block en route to a second consecutive National Championship title. In total, the outside hitter was a part of three national titles after winning the 2020 championship as a freshman at Kentucky.
Skinner, a junior from Katy, Texas, was named a 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) First Team All-American and is a two-time AVCA All-Southwest Region honoree and a two-time First Team All-Big 12 member.
She finished the season ranked fifth nationally in points per set (5.54) and sixth nationally in kills per set (4.80), and led the team with 46 service aces.
In its 48th year, the CWSA has honored the nation's top NCAA female athletes for their outstanding athletic ability, leadership, academic excellence and commitment to community service. Since its partnership began in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to honoree and nominee universities to support women's athletics programs.
Skinner is the Big 12's 26th Honda Sport Award winner and the league's fourth in volleyball.
