England’s Zoe Harrison says inspiring young girls to stay in the sport as the Red Roses seek a place in the Rugby World Cup semi-finals motivates her.
England are favorites to win the tournament and meet Australia in the quarter-finals in Auckland on Sunday.
Harrison said “people tried to bully her out of rugby” when she was younger.
“I want to show the girls that it’s not a man’s sport and I won’t let people tell me otherwise,” the 24-year-old told ` Sport.
“It motivates us, especially given what we’ve seen at the Euros,” she added, referring to the England women who won Euro 2022 this summer.
“The number of girls who started football afterwards – that’s what we want. It doesn’t matter what sport it is to me as long as girls do it and keep doing it instead of getting to the point where you’re 16 or 17 and you throw it in the bin.”
Off the field, Harrison is known for the TikTok videos she made with teammate Jess Breach.
She added that she wanted to use her social media accounts to show young girls that a rugby player couldn’t be a woman.
“I’m either dressed up to go out or I’m playing rugby,” she said.
“It shows that you can do both. When I was younger, I was always referred to as a man. You can go out and look like a girl and still play rugby.”
