The former racing engineer and team manager Axel Randolph has been appointed as the new team boss of Scherer Sport PHX, replacing the long-time figurehead Ernst Moser.
Moser founded the team, formerly known as Phoenix Racing, in 1999 and enjoyed success in the DTM and the Nürburgring 24, where it took six overall victories between 2000 and 2022.
He stepped down from his position at the end of last year and Randolph took over as manager of the team on January 1st.
The 54-year-old spent much of his career at HWA, working for the company in various roles from 1996 to 2017, including race engineer, head of racing operations and head of team management.
In the DTM, he notably acted as race engineer for Mika Häkkinen and was part of Paul Di Resta's championship success in 2010.
“It is a great honor for me to lead such a prestigious team,” said Randolph.
“I have known Ernst Moser for 25 years. We were rivals in the DTM, but always friendly.
“I got to know Scherer Sport PHX last year through various engineering activities and immediately felt at home in the team.
“The position of team boss is of course a very special challenge. That's why I'm happy that Christian Scherer [Scherer Group CEO] supports the team.
“And Ernst Moser assured me that I could call him at any time if we needed his advice.”
Moser will remain associated with the team as an advisor, while his son Ron will continue to serve as team manager.
“I am sure that Axel Randolph is the right man for Scherer Sport PHX,” said Moser.
“I recognize his qualities and know that the team is in good hands with him and Christian Scherer.
“For me, this is the beginning of a completely new phase in my life that I am very excited about.
“I follow what’s happening from afar and like to give advice.”
