Educational program in the Olympic Youth Villages
The Athlete365 House, which will run the athlete education program in the two Youth Olympic Villages during the Games, will include dedicated spaces to protect athletes. Athletes and members of their community can visit these rooms to learn more about the topic, including what constitutes harassment and abuse in sports, how to recognize and respond to these behaviors, and how to report safety concerns.
Visitors will be involved in a variety of activities, including writing their personal messages on a world map – detailing what safe sport means to them – and leaving messages for their fellow athletes.
The existing initiatives to promote safe sports for athletes form one of the three pillars of the overall IOC strategy to protect and promote the holistic well-being of athletes at Gangwon 2024. The concept, called “Mind, Body and Self,” aims to encourage athletes to strengthen the tools and contacts necessary to stay healthy and recognize when they need support.
In addition to safe sport, mental health and injury prevention are the two other pillars. In the Youth Olympic Villages education area, athletes will find tips on preventing injuries and learn how to prioritize mental health needs as much as their physical health needs, including a mindful VR meditation experience in one of the Disconnection Pods website.
