Cedric Mullins made the history books on Friday.
The Baltimore Orioles outfielder scored his first goal of his career and twelfth in Orioles franchise history in a 6-3 win for the Orioles over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He capped it off with a winning home run at the end of the eighth inning in front of a raucous crowd at Camden Yards:
This was Mullins showing his power. With his triple in the fifth inning he showed his hecticness and raced into the right field gap to third base after a line drive.
He hit his single in the third inning and his double in the seventh, just missing on a natural cycle. And yes, he received a standing ovation from the crowd when he took the field in the ninth inning.
Mullins’ cycle is the seventh since the Orioles moved to Baltimore and the franchise’s first since teammate Austin Hays scored last season.

Mullins, a 2021 All-Star who had an exit last season, came on Friday at .248/.351/.421 with four homers and 12 stolen bases on 12 tries. The win lifted the Orioles’ record to 25-13, which is tantamount to the second-best record in MLB, but still only enough for second place in their division behind the Tampa Bay Rays at 30-10.
