ODFW is seeking two new Oregon Hatchery Research Center board members to represent recreational anglers

CORVALLIS, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking two new members to represent recreational anglers on the Oregon Hatchery Research Center Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to advancing knowledge about hatchery fish, their contribution to fisheries and their interactions with wild fish.

The OHRC is a collaborative project between ODFW and OSU. The Center’s mission is to be an internationally recognized leader in fisheries science, to conduct research to define the mechanisms that may cause differences between hatchery and wild salmonids, to recommend strategies to address these differences, and to educate Oregonians about the benefits, Elucidate risks, roles and services of hatcheries to increase and sustain fisheries.

The Board is tasked with advising the OHRC Director regarding the OHRC’s operations, budget, and research priorities. The OHRC board consists of 12 members representing various groups, including recreational anglers. The Department is committed to ensuring that the OHRC Board represents Oregon’s age, racial, ethnic and gender diversity. Prospective Board members should demonstrate the ability to bring the perspectives of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and identities to the deliberations and outcomes of the OHRC Board. Applicants should also demonstrate an interest in research related to fish propagation in hatcheries while considering the conservation of wild fish populations.
