Newcastle sale: Falcons win for Covid-related postponement from Sharks

Newcastle suffered three Covid-related postponements in 2020-21 – but this was the first this season

Newcastle Falcons have received a four-point win over the Covid hit Sale after Boxing Day was postponed.

In accordance with last season’s record of Covid-affected games, the game is officially recorded as a 0-0 draw with four points for Newcastle and two points for Sale.

Sale canceled the game after a “significant number” of positive cases.

The decision to postpone was made after consulting the Testing Oversight Group of the Professional Game Board (PGB).

After the league’s first postponement for the 2021/22 season, a Premiership Rugby spokesman said: “The Newcastle Falcons have won the win and four league points.

“Sale Sharks is considered lost but has awarded two league points. The score is recorded as 0-0.”

The sale is next set to take place on New Years Day, when Wasps host, while Newcastle will play against leaders Leicester the next day.
