NBA Playoffs: Jamal Murray scores another game-winner to lift the Nuggets past the Lakers in Game 5 and clinch the series

Jamal Murray has done it again.

The Denver Nuggets star scored another game-winning goal after his wild buzzer-beater in Game 2 of the series on Monday night, officially ending the opening-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Murray, with the game tied in the final seconds, hit a deft jumper from just inside the free throw line over Austin Reaves to seal the 108-106 victory over the Lakers. His shot came with just under four seconds left, which wasn't enough time for the Lakers to respond since they had no timeouts.

That officially gave the Nuggets a 4-1 series win over the Lakers and sent them to the Western Conference semifinals. They face the Minnesota Timberwolves, who defeated the Phoenix Suns in the first round.

Murray, who was questionable Monday night with a calf strain, hit a buzzer-beater as he fell out of bounds in Game 2, giving the Nuggets a 2-0 lead.

“I'm speechless. It’s a dream come true,” Murray said on TNT. “All those fans on your side that get it done that way, I don’t know. I don't know what to say. I’m just happy for us.”

The Lakers, defeated by the Nuggets in the Western Conference finals last season, have now lost in the opening round of the playoffs twice in the last four seasons.

After holding a slight lead at halftime thanks to a 12-0 run in the second quarter that helped them recover from an early hole, the Lakers nearly lost Davis right after halftime

Davis shot himself in the left shoulder after colliding with Michael Porter Jr. in the opening minutes of the second half. The two met in the middle of the lane and Davis immediately fell hard onto the field. He also remained lying there for a few minutes, clearly in severe pain, before finally getting up and walking to the bench.

The shot itself didn't look like anything drastic, but it clearly hit Davis in just the right spot to make an impact. He stayed in the game after a timeout, but grabbed hold of his neck and his arm dangled several times on the next few possessions. At that point he had 16 points and nine rebounds. He finished with 17 points and 15 boards.

Despite the injury, the Lakers briefly extended their lead to nine points near the halfway point of the period after a huge three-pointer from LeBron James. Davis was pretty much useless offensively from then on. As he grabbed his tenth rebound of the night, he immediately grabbed his shoulder in pain.

That nine-point lead quickly disappeared for the Lakers. The Nuggets then went on a 19-5 run to take the lead just a few minutes later, which included a huge 3-pointer from Porter, although he took a big shot that sent him to the court.

Towards the end of the quarter, Davis went back to the locker room but returned to the field to start the fourth. Although the Lakers briefly took the lead midway through the final period, Murray dropped four quick points and threw a massive dunk over James, immediately bending him under the rim.

The teams went back and forth in the final minutes, but Murray hit a huge 3-pointer to bring the Nuggets back to the lead by two points with a minute left. James hit two free throws at the other end to make it 106-106 and set up Murray's game-winning goal.

James came close to a triple-double for the Lakers. He scored 30 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds in the loss, shooting 11 of 21 from the field. Reaves added 19 points.

Murray led the Nuggets with 32 points and seven assists and shot 5 of 10 from behind the arc. Porter added 26 points and Nikola Jokić finished the game with 25 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists.

The Nuggets will now face the Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals starting Saturday in Denver. Minnesota defeated the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night in their first playoff series in two decades.
