Michael Beale: Wolves officially approach QPR over Molineux manager’s job

Michael Beale has guided QPR to seven wins in 14 games since taking on Mark Warburton in the summer

Wolves have formally approached QPR to speak with boss Michael Beale about becoming their new manager.

The Premier League club have made Beale their first choice to replace Bruno Lage, who was sacked on October 2.

“Until I hear otherwise, it’s just speculation,” he said afterwards QPR beat Cardiff to go to the top of the championship.

“If you’re fine, that will come. The club didn’t come to me to say they had an approach for me.”

The 42-year-old is a highly rated manager who followed Steven Gerrard south from Rangers to Aston Villa before joining QPR.

He said the rumors had been a distraction leading up to Wednesday’s game but his players offered little evidence as they beat the Bluebirds 3-0.

“I found it difficult – I was at home today and then while I was out my phone went off so I just turned it off,” added Beale.

“I didn’t want the players to look at me differently tonight. I asked her to rest [from defeat at Luton] and answer and I thought they were fantastic.”

Wolves have spoken to former coach Nuno Espirito Santo and recently departed Lyon coach Peter Bosz about the Molineux vacancy.

It has not been ruled out that interim bosses Steve Davis and James Collins could remain in office until next month’s top-flight break for the World Cup.

Wolves host their fellow contenders Leicester City on Sunday.
