WICHITA, Kan. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team ended its first day of the ITA Fall Circuit with all six Razorbacks advancing to the round of 16 and three advancing to the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Returning junior Melvin Manuel won both of his matches today as the No. 1 in the tournament. In the round of 32, Oklahoma’s Manuel Robinson beat in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. He continued to dominate, defeating Zach Greuber in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 16.
Manuel meets new addition to the Arkansas roster, Alan Sau, in the quarterfinals. In his debut as a razorback, Sau was seeded 5th, defeating his two opponents in straight sets en route to the quarterfinals. Benedkit Emesz also made his Razorback debut as the No. 2 seed. Emesz faces Wichita State’s Alex Richards in the quarterfinals tomorrow after winning both of his matches in straight sets today.
The Razorbacks had nine wins total that day, with each Razorback winning their round of 32 games. Junior Adrien Burdet got the tiebreak of the first set 7:6 (11:9) and won the second set 6:1 for his win. Jake Sweeney shared sets in his first match and won the third set in the tiebreak 1-0 (10-6). Junior Foster Rogers rounded out the Razorbacks’ first-round wins with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set win.
