Pep Guardiola may have ended a thunderous night by raising his arms in the air and blowing kisses in the stands, but he was clearly less than satisfied when he warned Manchester City will not win their fifth title in six years, unless they rise to their former heights.
The manager’s fire and sulfur reaction continued in his post-match debrief as Guardiola’s perfectionist approach bubbled to the surface, outlining what he expects of everyone at City on and off the pitch.
No one was spared as Guardiola felt the win clearly – “I’m incredibly happy, I’ll sleep like a baby tonight” – giving him a better platform to say he wasn’t incredibly happy at all.
Guardiola wants more than his players’ natural gifts, especially when they’re trying to feed the hunger of a new challenger in the form of Arsenal.
The Gunners are still in control of the title race, five points clear with a game in hand, but no one listening to Guardiola left any doubt that he consistently wants the old champion City back, and he does it now.
After all, it was spectacular on the field – and Guardiola made it spectacular off it too.
