Mahrez scores in the City series of goals – Sport – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Algeria’s c -tain Riyad Mahrez improved his Manchester City goal record to 11 in all competitions this season, scoring their third goal in a 4-0 win over Newcastle United at the weekend.

The winger is one of many Premier League stars who will compete in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon from January 9th.

Mahrez led Algeria to glory in the last edition in Egypt two years ago, with a second-minute goal that earned the North African Desert Foxes a 1-0 final win over Senegal.

Here AFP Sport highlights Africans who have played in the major European leagues.

RIYAD MAHREZ (Manchester City)

He maintained his hot streak as the champions drove to victory in struggling Newcastle. Mahrez scored three games in a row when he scored in the 63rd minute. The 30-year-old converted a cross from Oleksandr Zinchenko and was able to cheer after a VAR check.

The Nigerian scored a good goal in stoppage time after an assist from Gerard Moreno in the 3-1 La Liga win for Villarreal at Real Sociedad. The success put Villarreal in 11th place, 21 points behind leaders Real Madrid.

ISHAK BELFODIL (Hertha Berlin)

The Algerian striker defeated Axel Witsel and sank his shot under goalkeeper Marwin Hitz to compensate for Julian Brandt’s opening goal for Borussia Dortmund in Hertha Berlin’s 3-2 win. It was Belfodil’s first Bundesliga goal since his goal for ex-club Hoffenheim in May 2018 and ended a 30-game run without a hit.

Togo’s striker Ihlas Bebou came off the bench to provide the final assist as Hoffenheim’s Nigerian defender Akpoguma equalized in added time in a 1-1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach. It was Akpoguma’s last game at Hoffenheim before joining the Nigerian Africa Cup of Nations squad while teammate Diadie Samassekou was called up by Mali.

M’BAYE NIANG (Bordeaux)

Senegalese international Niang scored four goals when Bordeaux celebrated a 10-0 win in the French Cup over the past 64 years against Jumeaux de Mzouazia, based on the Indian Ocean island of Mayotte, 7,884 kilometers from Bordeaux.
