Birmingham-based consultancy Liquid have signed a new deal to sponsor West Midlands football club West Bromwich Albion. Under the agreement, the consultancy will support both the club’s men’s and women’s teams.
Founded in 2004, Liquid is a communications and public relations consultancy. With main offices in Birmingham and London, the company began its international expansion 11 years ago by acquiring offices in Jersey and Guernsey – and has since continued to grow its international client base, working with companies in Canada, Luxembourg, Hong Kong and Australia.
The consultancy has a long history of working with and supporting local and national sports including Aston Villa Football Club, Betfred British Masters DP World Tour, England Golf, Sport England, Birmingham 2022, the Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust, the British Transplant Games and Transplant Sport and Birmingham City Women. Now the company has enriched its long history by agreeing to become a sponsor of West Bromwich Albion.
The Black Country Club were founding members of the English Football League, the world’s first professional football league, in 1888 – and in the decades since then the club has spent most of its existence in the top flight of English football. The Baggies were once English champions in 1919–20 and won the FA Cup five times, but are currently in the second tier of football.
As the club look to climb back up to the top of the Premier League, Liquid will support both West Brom’s men’s and women’s teams – the latter currently competing in the FA Women’s National League North. Throughout the 2023/24 season, Liquid will be a silver member of the Executive Club and will perform at every home game during the season. This includes advertising on the Hawthorns audience-facing LED system, super-wide screens, in reception areas and in game programming, along with other partners including professional services firms HJ Wealth Planning, MCD Kidderminster and Paul Rigby Group.
Tomasz Chadwick, Head of Commercial at West Bromwich Albion, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Liquid as a sponsor for the new season and appreciate their continued support.” The company is run by extremely passionate people who understand the importance of the sports industry is and the impact it is having on communities around the world. We are proud to have built such a strong relationship and look forward to a successful season in partnership.”
According to Liquid CEO Elisabeth Lewis-Jones, the move continues the company’s belief that “sport has the power to unite communities, inspire a sense of civic pride and highlight the people who make a region great.” That belief is behind the company’s regular support of sporting institutions in the Midlands.
Lewis-Jones added: “Our teams around the world love sport in all its forms so we are extremely proud to sponsor West Bromwich Albion. We know we’re very proud of our home and favorite teams, so we can’t wait to cheer on West Brom from the touchline with everyone!”
Many consulting firms are registered as sponsors or partners of top football clubs and provide both financial support and advice as part of the agreement. In 2021, West Ham United FC Women partnered with boutique consultancy Vision Consulting, while last year GCB became Recruitment Community Partner of Norwich City and DXC signed as sleeve sponsor of Manchester United.
