Geneva-based watch house Laurent Ferrier has unveiled a new addition to its Série Atelier line, known as the “Sport Auto 40,” designed to pay tribute to the brand’s racing roots.
The limited timepiece is set to be produced in an exclusive run of 40 pieces and is inspired by the number 40 Porsche 935 Turbo driven by brand founders François Servanin and Laurent Ferrier at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Elements on the timepiece’s dial pay homage to the vehicle, with its viridian green gradient and opaline finish, linked by a fuchsia cross that draws the eye to a unique date window. The number “40” adorns the small seconds dial, reminiscent of the car’s sticker, but opted for a more subtle white-on-white design. The indices and hands made of white gold, decorated with an orange Super-LumiNova coating, also enhance the look of the watch.
With its aerodynamically inspired design, the “Sport Auto 40” combines rounded curves with sweeping lines. The 41.5mm Grade 5 titanium case is complemented by an integrated titanium bracelet, available in a variety of finishes from satin to highly polished.
Inside the watch, caliber LF270.01 makes its mark, Laurent Ferrier’s second automatic movement with a calendar. Designed and assembled in-house, this movement has a power reserve of over 72 hours and is manufactured to withstand shock to ensure long life. Other details include a sapphire crystal caseback with over 139 manual finishing operations and a meticulously hand-decorated rotor bridge.
The Série Atelier “Sport Auto 40” is due to be released shortly via Laurent Ferrier’s official website, with a retail price of CHF 51,000 or approximately USD 57,729.
