IRVING, Texas – Commissioner Brett Yormark announced today that the Big 12 Conference will add women’s lacrosse for the 2024-25 academic year, giving Sun Devil Lacrosse a landing spot in the Big 12.

“Sun Devil Lacrosse is excited to represent the Big 12 with lacrosse,” said head coach Taryn VanThof. “As one of the fastest growing sports, the addition of Big 12 Lacrosse is an incredible opportunity to showcase our sport nationally. I’m really looking forward to competing for a Big 12 Championship and NCAA bid starting in 2024-25!”

Women’s lacrosse is experiencing growth and popularity on a national level. The additions allow new and current members to compete for national championships with the Big 12 logo while strengthening the league’s brand at the highest level.

“I am very excited about this great opportunity for our student-athletes!” said Christina Wombacher, Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. “I look forward to continuing to strengthen Olympic sports and the Big 12 brand. We are all looking forward to a great student-athlete experience competing for championships.”

Among Big 12 Conference institutions for the 2024–25 season, Arizona State, Colorado and Cincinnati sponsor women’s lacrosse. The additions bring the conference’s total number of sponsored sports to 25, including 15 women’s sports.

“Beach volleyball and women’s lacrosse are growing in popularity nationally,” said Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. “The additions will allow new and current members to compete for national championships under the Big 12 umbrella while expanding the league’s presence in new sports.”
