MOORESVILLE, NC – Former Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course at the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard for Team Hezeberg.
“I’m really excited to be making my NASCAR Cup Series debut in Indianapolis,” said Kvyat. “I’ve always been passionate about NASCAR racing, the highest form of motorsport in the United States. NASCAR has always fascinated me because for me it is a pure form of motorsport.”
Kvyat last competed in Formula 1, driving for Red Bull Racing until 2020, and was a reserve driver for Alpine in 2021.
His F1 career was highlighted by a podium at the 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix when at 21 he became the second youngest driver to have finished on the podium.
Kvyat’s NASCAR Cup Series debut comes after a hiatus from the wheel, but Kvyat is optimistic about his return to the pinnacle of motorsport.
“I’m looking forward to being successful in this form of motorsport and I hope to be able to fight for wins and championships in the future,” said Kvyat. “I can’t thank NASCAR, Josh Reaume, Toine Hezemans, Ernst Berg and everyone at Team Hezeberg enough for this opportunity. The guys at the shop worked tirelessly to prepare the machine and me for this experience. It will be my first time in Indianapolis and I look forward to seeing it in person. From what I saw on the video, Indianapolis is a challenging track, but I’m looking forward to that challenge along with competing in the NASCAR Cup Series.”
Josh Reaume, co-owner of Team Hezeberg, is excited to have a global talent behind the wheel and is confident in the next-gen’s capabilities at Indianapolis.
“Daniil is a very talented rider with an incredible amount of open wheel experience. In my opinion, NASCAR is a great place for Daniil, especially with the next-gen’s prowess in many racing styles. I look forward to being a part of Daniil’s transition to NASCAR and helping him in any way I can.”
Kvyat will drive the #26 Toyota Camry for Team Hezeberg.
The team will field a second car this weekend, with Loris Hezemans boarding the #27.
