Qualifier Jak Jones must recover from an 11-6 deficit after Kyren Wilson made a dominant start to the World Snooker Championship final and then won a dramatic final frame on the opening night.

The first session of the best-of-35 Crucible Theater showpiece, which spanned two days, was controlled from start to finish by Wilson. He started with an excellent 129 and scored freely throughout, with the nervous Jones unable to find his flow. With the Welshman given regular opportunities to build a break thanks to an unusually loose safety game, Wilson proved his clean lead and won the first seven frames of the match before Jones finally got on the board in the final frame of the afternoon session to go behind 7-1.

However, Jones fought back in the evening session and reached the final frame of the evening just four frames behind. He managed to clear the last red, leaving Wilson needing a snooker, but Wilson managed to find the snooker and win all the suits – including a thrilling last black at the end of a long battle – to steal the frame and to secure an 11-6 overnight lead.

Ronnie O'Sullivan expresses doubts about attending future UK tournaments: 'There's a tax to be paid'

O'Sullivan will embark on an exhibition tour of China, Finland and Bulgaria next week, insisting he is hand-picking his future tournaments and increasingly keen on big-money offers from Saudi Arabia and the Far East.

The 48-year-old recently signed a contract with the Saudis, which ironically requires him to sign a new contract with the World Snooker Tour to fulfill his commitment to play in the inaugural Saudi Masters in Riyadh at the end of August.

Judd Trump didn't want to “get out of bed” to tour with rival after turning down the offer

Judd Trump has revealed he has rejected offers to join a rival snooker tour.

Trump says he has no interest in the planned LIV-style breakaway group, presumably from the Far East and requiring a commitment to compete in eight regular events plus a grand final for a six-figure registration fee.

“Some people tried to contact me, but I just wouldn’t be deterred,” Trump said.

Who is Kyren Wilson? The snooker star is nearing the end of the great title drought

The Kettering-born 32-year-old first turned professional in 2010 and soon established himself as one of snooker's brightest young stars. He recovered from a loss of form and regained his World Tour card to return to the sport's top tier in 2013.

Wilson made an immediate impact and established himself as a player who could beat anyone in his career, developing the consistency needed to challenge at the highest level. Prize money for the 2024 World Snooker Championship

Kyren Wilson and Jak Jones face each other today on the final day of the 2024 World Snooker Championship.

But Jones has proven he is a tough competitor and is capable of winning from difficult positions, leaving the finale still dicey with two sessions to go.
