Qualifier Jak Jones must recover from an 11-6 deficit after Kyren Wilson made a dominant start to the World Snooker Championship final and then won a dramatic final frame on the opening night.
The first session of the best-of-35 Crucible Theater showpiece, which spanned two days, was controlled from start to finish by Wilson. He started with an excellent 129 and scored freely throughout, with the nervous Jones unable to find his flow. With the Welshman given regular opportunities to build a break thanks to an unusually loose safety game, Wilson proved his clean lead and won the first seven frames of the match before Jones finally got on the board in the final frame of the afternoon session to go behind 7-1.
However, Jones fought back in the evening session and reached the final frame of the evening just four frames behind. He managed to clear the last red, leaving Wilson needing a snooker, but Wilson managed to find the snooker and win all the suits – including a thrilling last black at the end of a long battle – to steal the frame and to secure an 11-6 overnight lead.

Judd Trump didn't want to “get out of bed” to tour with rival after turning down the offer
Judd Trump has revealed he has rejected offers to join a rival snooker tour.
Trump says he has no interest in the planned LIV-style breakaway group, presumably from the Far East and requiring a commitment to compete in eight regular events plus a grand final for a six-figure registration fee.
“Some people tried to contact me, but I just wouldn’t be deterred,” Trump said.

According to the World Snooker Tour's Seasonal Average Shot Time, Jones is the 107th slowest out of 128 players on the tour, with each shot taking more than 28 seconds. Only Zhang Anda was slower in this year's tournament.

Jones overcame an early 7-1 deficit but lost in a dramatic black-ball climax in the final frame of the day that let 12th-seeded Wilson off the hook and with an 11-6 lead heading into Monday's final sessions went.
Reflecting on his missed chance to get within three frames of his opponent, a visibly disheartened Jones told the `: “It's a miracle I'm still there, I played shockingly. “I'm absolutely exhausted and think that if I had slept well last night I could have done better.”

Kyren Wilson and Jak Jones face each other today on the final day of the 2024 World Snooker Championship.
The pair will be eager to write their names into the history books at the Crucible, which this year has been an unpredictable tournament with plenty of surprises. Wilson extended a five-frame lead to 18 frames in the race on Monday.
But Jones has proven he is a tough competitor and is capable of winning from difficult positions, leaving the finale still dicey with two sessions to go.
