Diesel and petrol mild hybrid SUVs with nice looks and some connectivity
Jaguar has unveiled a pair of its F-Pace SUVs that aim to lean more towards the sporty side of the spectrum. Because they are literally called SPORT. Meet the F-Pace 300 SPORT and F-Pace 400 SPORT.
We’ll lower the caps to save the screaming and instead focus on some DETAILS. Oops. The 300 Sport gets Jag’s inline 3.0-liter diesel – already available in smaller versions for the F-Pace – here with two turbos delivering 296 hp and 478 lb ft of torque. Jag claims a 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds and a top whack of 143mph. So medium fast.
This diesel returns a claimed 38.2mpg and emits 194g/km and has mild hybrid assistance in the form of a generator integrated into the belts instead of a regular alternator. It is able to recover energy during braking and store it in a 48V battery.
The 400 Sport, on the other hand, brings a straight-six car to the petrol range (other variants include a four-pot or a V8). This gets the same hybrid support but a lot more power (395 hp) from the 3.0-liter Ingenium six, although torque is slightly less compared to the diesel (406 lb ft). Featuring hits like a turbo and an electric supercharger, this engine will propel the F-Pace from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and to a top speed of 250 km/h.
Aside from that, the F-Pace sports cars get a pair of new colors, both shades of, ahem, gray. That and gloss black details, optional 21-inch or 22-inch forged wheels, heated and ventilated seats, suede headliner and a panoramic roof. Oh, and both cars have Amazon Alexa as standard. You’ll note that neither car gets any chassis upgrades, but the F-Pace was already a decent-handling SUV.
Prices start at £62,250 for the diesel 300 Sport and £68,520 for the petrol 400 Sport. FYI, the top-of-the-line F-Pace SVR with this 5.0-litre V8 starts at £81,510…
