Grimsby Town 2-0 Salford City

Grimsby Town clinched their first win of the season in the second tier by beating ten-man Salford City at Blundell Park.

Abo Eisa had a brace for Grimsby, scoring a goal in each half, while Salford midfielder Ossama Ashley saw an early red for a second bookable offense shortly after the restart.

There were few chances in the early stages, but Grimsby managed to break the deadlock after 20 minutes when Eisa struck for the first time and saw a 25-yarder fly past goalie Alex Cairns through a deflection.

Adrian Mariappa and Curtis Tilt both responded with the goal, but a routine save from Jake Eastwood and a final block from Luke Waterfall thwarted them as Conor McAleny missed the best chance for the Salford equalizer.

Ashley received two yellow cards – one either side of the break – and his dismissal presented Salford with a mountain to climb.

Grimsby pushed and tried for a second and then it came with 25 minutes to go when winger Eisa shot inside and slotted cleanly into the far corner.
