Gloucester is former lock George Skivington’s first role as head coach since he retired
Gloucester head coach George Skivington has entrusted his future to the club by signing a new “long-term deal”.
Skivington, 39, joined the Cherry and Whites in June 2020 after working as a forward coach at fellow Premiership club London Irish.
The former lock retired from the game in 2016 after stints with Wasps, Leicester and London Irish due to injury.
“I am very grateful to the club for giving me this contract. The club are after me,” Skivington said.
“There were higher profile coaches that they could have gone for, which would have been the easy option in terms of people’s perceptions.
“My ambition is to prove them right and show them they have hired the right man and I will continue to do that. We want to be a successful club year after year.”
While Gloucester finished 11th in the Premier League in Skivington’s first year at the top, You’ve made great strides this season and are currently fifth after battling for the top four play-off spots for most of the campaign.
The team’s driving maul’s success this season in becoming the league’s most impressive typifies Gloucester’s improvement and something Skivington is keen to create a culture.
“It’s probably the best area of the game to show how solid you are as a group,” he previously told ` Sport.
Gloucester Chief Executive Officer Lance Bradley added: “We have a long-term vision for success on and off the field and George has been and will continue to be a significant contributor to that,” he said
