French Open 2022: “That’s why sport can make you cry,” Ravi Shastri tweeted about Alexander Zverev’s semi-final heartbreak
Alexander Zverev was left heartbroken when an injury forced him to withdraw from his French Open 2022 semi-final match against Rafael Nadal at Court Philippe Chatrier on Friday. Attempting to retaliate against Nadal in the second set, Zverev twisted his ankle and screamed in pain before lying on the floor in pain. He was escorted off the pitch in a wheelchair before returning to hug Nadal and wave goodbye to the crowd with a standing ovation.
Former Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri took to Twitter to lament Zverev’s unfortunate injury.

He also had a message for Rafael Nadal, who was spotted taking care of his opponent after his injury and later accompanying him back to the court.
“@RafaelNadal – sportsmanship, humility. Simply brilliant and respectful,” he wrote.
Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar also praised Nadal’s behavior.

Nadal led 7-6 (10/8), 6-6 as Zverev pulled out of the match with injury and is now through to his 14th French Open final. He has won all 13 finals he has reached before.
He will face Marin Cilic/Casper Ruud on Sunday while chasing a record-breaking 22nd Grand Slam title.
“It’s very hard and very sad for him. He played an incredible tournament and he’s a very good colleague on the tour,” Nadal said after the match about Zverev.

“For me, to be in the Roland Garros final is without a doubt a dream, but at the same time, for it to end like this… I was in the small room with Sascha and I saw him crying like that – I wish him all the best,” he said .
