College athletes have been able to capitalize on their name, image and likeness since July 2021, and there has been little market scrutiny.
As more schools become more involved in facilitating business for their athletes, transparency can help athletes feel treated fairly and help athletic departments manage conflicts of interest, the article said.
“You could think of many situations where being able to show what you’re doing would benefit everyone,” Squadron said in the article. “In the long run, everyone benefits from understanding how the market works. It also gives people a chance to understand what outliers might be.”
