Elliot Anderson has withdrawn from Scotland’s squad for the games against Cyprus and England through injury.
The 20-year-old Newcastle midfielder made his first senior call-up last month. National team manager Steve Clarke said there were “good conversations” with the player and his family.
Born in Whitley Bay, he represented Scotland at youth level, for which he qualified through his grandmother.
The Scots visit Cyprus for the Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday (19:45 BST).
And the following Tuesday they host England in a friendly.
Used as a substitute in Newcastle’s first four Premier League games this season, Anderson made a brief stint in the 2021 England Under-19 side. He returned for a Scotland U21 game last year before turning down further appearances at this level.
He is still eligible to play for both countries as he has not yet received full international cap eligibility for either country.
Scotland have not yet named a replacement.
