David Lloyd averages 30.85 with the bat in first-class cricket
Derbyshire have named all-rounders David Lloyd and Samit Patel as captains for the 2024 season.
Former Glamorgan captain Lloyd, who was on loan at Derby last summer, is the club's new captain and will lead the team in the County Championship.
“David will bring a real aggression to our red-ball game and I think our fans will really enjoy our cricket in the County Championship this season.”
“Samit is one of the most decorated players in county cricket and his will to win is infectious.”
“He has a very good cricket brain, particularly in the white-ball game, and knows what it takes to win trophies, which will be key to the Vitality Blast this season.”
Lloyd needs two more runs to reach 5,000 in first-class cricket and has also taken 124 wickets across all formats.
“It is a real honor for me to be named captain of our red-ball team. We have a special group of players, coaching staff and people at the club, this is an exciting opportunity that I couldn't turn down,” said the 31-year-old, who has a three-year contract with Derbyshire.

Samit Patel joined Derbyshire on a two-year contract
Patel, 39, has played almost 400 T20 games around the world, 245 List A games and featured in 54 white-ball games for England.
Patel said: “I am looking forward to working with the great team we have put together. The type of cricket we want to play will hopefully attract the fans to support us. They play a big role if we want to win.”
Derbyshire begin their opening County Championship Division Two game at home against Gloucestershire on April 5th and face Northants Steelbacks in their first T20 Blast game on May 30th.
