CR-V vs. Bronco Sport: Pavement or dirt
Among the compact crossovers, the 2022 Honda CR-V continues to impress with lively driving manners, good standard safety features and plenty of space for cargo and passengers. A supercharged 4-cylinder engine is lively and provides plenty of oomph. The CR-V is pleasant to drive and competent, if not exactly sporty.
Also available is a 212-horsepower hybrid that returns 40 mpg in the city. Front-wheel drive is the default, with all-wheel drive available for 4-season conditions, although the CR-V has no real off-road c -abilities.
The exterior is modern and sleek, although not particularly noticeable. Inside, the CR-V is more spacious than you’d expect, with plenty of room for passengers and 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded down. The seating position is good, the seats are comfortable and the outside view is very good.
The standard equipment includes the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking, mitigation of the road departure and lane departure warning. A 4-speaker audio system, a USB port and Bluetooth are also standard, although there is not even a touchscreen on the basic LX equipment.
Our money is with the next EX kit, which adds a 7-inch touchscreen with -ple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a sunroof, blind spot monitoring, two-zone automatic climate control and a 6-speaker audio system. The EX-L adds leather seats and more speakers.
The top touring trim adds bigger wheels, wireless charging, a heated steering wheel, navigation and a 9-speaker audio system.
Ford Bronco Sport
While the Bronco is sold with two or four doors, the smaller 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is only a 4-door. This is partly because it is intended to be more of a city-friendly all-rounder than its rugged, off-road brother.
Make no mistake though, because the Bronco Sport is still a pretty decent off-roader in itself, with all-wheel drive as standard and a terrain management system that can be adjusted to whatever you ride through. However, on the sidewalk, the ride is civilized and comfortable. The base turbo 3 cylinder engine offers enough momentum to get it around, and there’s also a 2.0 liter turbo I4 with 250 horsepower if you want more muscle.
The cabin has a sturdy yet comfortable look, and while it has quite a bit of hard plastic, it is said to be easier to clean. A high roof provides good headroom both front and rear, but legroom in the back seats can be quite tight. There’s a decent amount of cargo space too, especially considering the Bronco Sport is a compact crossover.
The standard functions are pretty simple. This includes an 8-inch touchscreen with -ple CarPlay / Android Auto and USB-A and USB-C ports. The standard safety functions come via the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, which includes blind spot monitoring with cross traffic warning, a lane departure warning system, automatic emergency braking and a reversing camera.
Higher panels offer some more comfort features, the availability of more options and things like sport leather seats, remote start and LED lighting. Badlands trim is c -italized off-road, with a more advanced all-wheel drive system, off-road suspension, underrun protection, tow hooks, a 180 degree front camera and trail control.
