Antonio Conte has won seven and has only lost one of his eleven games as Spurs boss so far

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says he will be emotional when he returns to old club Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg (Wednesday 19:45 GMT).

Appointed by Spurs in November, Conte headed Chelsea from 2016 to 2018, won the Premier League and FA Cup, and made his return for the first time.

“I’ve had two great seasons and made a lot of friends at the club,” said Conte.

“Thank you Chelsea for giving me the opportunity to work in England.”

The Italian added: “Now I am the manager of Tottenham and I want to give 100% and more to this club to try to improve the team.

“It will be fine and I will certainly have emotions returning to Stamford Bridge.”

Spurs have new concerns about Covid-19 but Conte, who was waiting for the results of some tests on his players, didn’t say who might be missing out.

Cristian Romero, Ryan Sessegnon (both Achilles tendon) and Steven Bergwijn (calf) are all injured.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could return after apologizing for an interview and saying he was not happy at the club.

He was dropped for Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool but returned to training after talks with coach Thomas Tuchel.

Trevoh Chalobah is injured and his center-back Andreas Christensen is questionable, but striker Timo Werner could return after a few weeks.

“Timo trained yesterday,” said Tuchel on Tuesday. “We still have one session to go and he’s feeling a lot better which is a really good sign.

“He did a full workout at full intensity and showed no reaction at all. If today’s workout goes well for him we will try to have him on the bench and maybe give him a few minutes.”

The second leg will take place on Wednesday 12 January at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the winner playing against Arsenal or Liverpool in the final.
