What an unfestive Christmas for Brentford.
Two defeats, seven goals conceded, two goals and zero points.
The numerous injuries caught up with us. Forcing midfielders to play full-backs can only do so much, and leaving out Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo is untenable.
It also shows a lack of self-confidence. When we fell 2-1 behind at Crystal Palace and no one was calling out our team-mates, spirits were high.
Despite five Premier League defeats in a row and seven in eight games, Thomas Frank is not under pressure.
Quite rightly, no one demands his head and he is still one of the safest managers in the Premier League.
Frank worked wonders with a threadbare squad, scoring 19 points at halftime.
However, he now needs some help in the transfer window with some experienced signings – permanent or on loan.
After a similar run in the 2021/22 season, Christian Eriksen arrived and, along with the return of some key players from injury, ensured we stayed up there with no problem.
Ivan Toney is now playing the Eriksen role after returning from his suspension, but I believe more people are needed.
The Bees rarely sign players in January and Frank said last week that while the priority is on a full-back, we may only sign one more player.
This is a bet that Toney can hit the ground running and, more importantly, not be sold this month and the other injured players return.
It could well pay off, but while I think we'll stay up, it would be terrible if we didn't because we're not active in this window.
