Townsville downtown comes alive with free rock concerts and food festivals over two blockbuster weekends celebrating sport and culture in the heart of the city.
More than 30,000 residents and visitors are expected for the Laurie Spina Shield and Cowboys vs Roosters games on Saturday April 2nd and again ahead of the first international game between Matildas and Ferns on Friday April 8th.
Central Park comes alive every weekend when Killing Heidi headlines on Saturday and Eskimo Joe takes the stage the following Friday. Both events offer something for everyone including sports activities, itinerant artists, food trucks, funfair and more.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the council is proud to be bringing world-class acts to Townsville as part of the popular Townsville Eats to build excitement ahead of two big sports weekends.
“Townsville is a proud sporting city and Council is thrilled to support such highly anticipated sporting events at Queensland Country Bank Stadium,” said Cr Hill.
“Townsville is the cultural capital of Northern Australia and what better way to demonstrate that than by bringing two big acts to town with free concerts ahead of next month’s A-Grade football and soccer matches.
“I know how many fans there are in Townsville who will love rocking out at Killing Heidi and Eskimo Joe concerts. These free concerts are part of the Townsville Eats events along Central Park, starting at the famous Townsville sign and continuing to the stadium.
“Each concert and Townsville Eats will be packed, giving a much-needed boost to food trucks, local vendors, restaurants, lodging and attraction operators while increasing the vibrancy of downtown ahead of each event. Both weekends fall during the April school holidays, so it’s the perfect time to bring the family for a great night of quality entertainment and invite friends and family to Townsville.
“Over the past year, Townsville has had plenty of practice showing its support for world-class sports games at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium, with State of Origin and the Rugby Championship both being played in our town. Always ready to activate the city around major events, Council will continue to support major cultural events coming to Townsville.”
