Australian Galloway signs an NBA contract with the Bucks

Australian Jaylin Galloway is headed to the NBA after signing a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The two-year deal means the former Sydney Kings forward will split his time with the Bucks and the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee's sister club in the G League.

Galloway, who played with Minnesota in the NBA Summer League last year, has long been considered an elite prospect.

The deal was officially announced on Monday morning (AEDT) and Galloway has already flown to the US to meet the Bucks, who sit third in the Eastern Conference standings.

“It all happened so quickly. It’s crazy and I still can’t really believe I was given this opportunity,” Galloway said.

“I knew there was some interest from the Bucks after my agent mentioned it a few months ago, but it all just came to fruition in the last few days. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.”

“I’m super excited and can’t wait to get to work.”

Galloway joins Xavier Cooks, Duop Reath, Jock Landale, Josh Giddey and Jack White as the youngest Australians to make the jump from the NBL to the NBA
among other things, that this has been the case in recent years.

Galloway, a two-time NBL champion with the Kings, had a breakout season in 2023-24 despite injury and was shortlisted for the league's best player award.

The Kings confirmed that the 197cm 21-year-old had signed a three-year contract extension as part of his release.

This means that if Galloway moves back to the NBL in the next three seasons, the Kings will refuse to sign him.

“We couldn’t be prouder of JG and the opportunity presented to him,” said Kings general manager Chris Pongrass.

Cooks, a former teammate of Galloway, was the youngest Kings player to move to the NBA.

The story goes on

He was released by the Washington Wizards on the eve of the current season.

Galloway's contract comes days after the Atlanta Hawks waived compatriot Patty Mills, with the Boomers captain yet to sign elsewhere.

The Bucks were one of the best NBA teams in recent years, led by superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and won the 2021 championship.

Veteran swingman Joe Ingles, who moved to Orlando at the end of the 2022-23 season, became the youngest Australian to play for Milwaukee.
