WILLIAMSPORT — Led by a record-breaking array of choices from five programs, including three from Standard-Journal coverage, a group of 96 Lycoming College student-athletes earned a spot on the 2023 MAC Winter/Spring Academic Honors Roll to celebrate the The athletic department recorded a record 185 selections in the 2022-2023 period, the Annville, Pa., conference bureau announced Monday, June 26.

The men’s basketball program surpassed its previous high of eight MAC Academic Honor Roll selections with 10 in Spring 2022, and the softball team surpassed its top Academic Honor Roll selection mark by two points by posting 14 and tying or breaking its program. Top marks for the third time in a row. The Men’s Tennis (Year 6, 2022), Wrestling (Year 12, 2020), and Women’s Tennis (Year 10, 2017) programs all achieved the same program top score.

Lycoming’s 185 selections in the 2022–23 season surpassed the record of 168 from the 2021–22 season.

Ten seniors – Luke Finkbeiner (men’s basketball), Katherine Brown (women’s swimming), Connor Fulmer (Southern Columbia, wrestling), Hunter O’Connor (wrestling), Preston Rogers (wrestling), Nathan Redell (men’s tennis), Madalyn Bechdel (softball), Kaleigh Kinley (softball), Morgan Wetzel (softball), Payton Whary (Shamokin, softball) – ended their careers with a perfect 4-on-4 in MAC Academic Honor Roll selection and earned the Award in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and 2023.

The Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who completed their spring championship season and achieved a semester/semester GPA of 3.20 (on a scale of 4.00) or higher.

Also among the honorees were Lewisburg Area High School graduate Logan Bartlett, a sophomore on the wrestling team, as well as Milton graduates and sisters Hannah and Haley Seebold, both juniors on the women’s tennis team.

Top pick Jackson Holliday is among the contenders for the July 8 All-Star Futures Game in Seattle

NEW YORK (`) — Baltimore infielder Jackson Holliday, the top pick in last year’s amateur draft and son of former All-Star Matt Holliday, was among 14 first-round picks for the July 8 All-Star Futures Game in Seattle .

Holliday is batting .325 in 63 games for Class A Delmarva and High A Aberdeen this year with 14 doubles, seven homers, 47 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.

He was joined in the AL roster announced Tuesday by Baltimore outfielder Heston Kjerstad (second overall in 2020), Boston infielders Marcelo Mayer (fourth in 2021) and Nick Yorke (17th in 2020) as well as Seattle catcher Harry Ford (12th in 2021), New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones (25th in 2022), Oakland catcher Tyler Soderstrom (26th in 2020), and Houston outfielder Drew Gilbert (28 . in 2022).

Four players are from the Dominican Republic, three from Cuba, two from Venezuela and one each from the Bahamas and the Netherlands.

Former Seattle Mariners Harold Reynolds (AL) and Raul Ibañez (NL) will be the managers.
