AS USA x SIGA. Today, September 6, AS USA hosted a session of SIGA Sport Integrity Week, the global thought-leadership event taking place September 2-9, 2023, which aims to unite the global sports industry, share best practices and find solutions for Finding current issues and future challenges to improve the governance of sport, protect the integrity of sport and ensure the long-term, sustainable development of sport.
To kick off the session, Will Gittins moderated a panel discussion on the importance of transparency in club ownership, addressing the importance of balancing short-term goals with long-term imperatives to ensure clubs are run sustainably.
Afterwards, Reem Abdalazem, AS journalist and two-time Olympian, moderated a panel discussion on the importance of fair opportunities for all athletes.
Registered blind golfer, Myles Clark, who has played for Scotland, then shared his journey and insights into the importance of making sport accessible to all.
Billy Lumsden, a former gambling addict and later CEO of a sports betting company, delved deeply into gambling and football culture.
In partnership with the SIGA Youth Council, Reem Abdalazem, wearing her former sports hat, took part in a fascinating panel on the importance of integrity to GRID: Gender, Race, Inclusion and Diversity.
Closing the session, Matt Riley, author of the book Her Game Too, spoke about gender equality in football, the success of the Women’s World Cup and the impact of the Rubiales scandal. In his words: “There’s a momentum in women’s football now that just can’t be stopped.”
