Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney has died in a car accident at the age of 25, his agent has confirmed.
“We ask for prayers for family and privacy at this most difficult time,” his agent Brian Overstreet said in a statement to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The accident happened in the early hours of Monday morning and a 26-year-old female passenger is believed to have also died in the vehicle. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said a vehicle was speeding on the Woodall Rodgers Freeway when it struck a vehicle in front and lost control before hitting a beam around 2:30 a.m. Monday. The people in the other vehicle were not injured.
“We are devastated to learn of the death of Jeff Gladney,” the Cardinals said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss.”
Gladney was a star at TCU before being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. He played in every game of his rookie season.

“Our TCU Athletics family, and our football program in particular, were very devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s death,” said TCU Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati. “After graduating and continuing his playing career in the NFL, Jeff maintained his close association with TCU. He loved everything about his alma mater. He has been a frequent visitor to campus and attended our Spring Practice and Spring Games this year, proudly accompanied by his young son.”
Former TCU teammate Jalen Reagor, now a Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, expressed his sorrow on Twitter. “Lost my brother, my best friend, my right hand… isn’t much more I can take damn it! RIP Jeff Gladney bro please take care of me,” Reagor wrote.
The Vikings released Gladney in April 2021 after he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend. He was found not guilty on those charges in March 2022 and the Cardinals signed him shortly thereafter.
Gladney is the second young NFL player to die in a traffic accident this year. In April, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was hit by a truck and killed after his car ran out of gas and exited the vehicle on a freeway.
