The German Grand Prix rider Andrea Timpe has withdrawn her No. 1 Grand Prix horse, Don Darwin, from competition. On Sunday 15th January 2023 he completed his final show round at the 2023 CDN Munster.
Don Darwin is a 20-year-old Oldenburg gelding by Don Schufro out of Wanessa (by Warkant x Eiger x Lindberg). He is bred by Jennifer Leuders.
Approved stallion
Don Darwin was licensed at the Oldenburg Stallion Licensing 2005 in Vechta.
He first appeared on the ward of Dr. Genn in Mühlen and passed his 30-day stallion performance test in October 2007 in Adelheidsdorf. He received 7.45 for dressage and 7.19 for jumping and scored 7.48 points.
In 2007, Don Darwin performed his first and only show under Frank Günther.
Andrea Tempe
Don Darwin was sold as a young horse to the late Wulf Timpe for his daughter Andrea.
At the CDI Aachen Dressage Days 2018, the new couple made their show debut in the L-level dressage horse competition in May 2009. In 2010, the couple reached the level of the Prix St. Georges and in April 2013 they rode their first Intermediaire II competition. A month later they celebrated their national Grand Prix debut in Unna-Massen, where they finished fourth.
At the 2014 German Dressage Championships, they placed 15th, the only time they rode the German Grand Prix Championships.
International career
The duo celebrated their international show debut at Grand Prix level in April 2015 at the CDI Nieuw en St. Joosland.
In your career you have completed 57 international tests in combination with starts at CDIs such as Oldenburg, Lier, Wiesbaden, Roosendaal, Dortmund, Aachen, Mannheim, Donaueschingen, Opglabbeek, Stadl Paura and many more.
In 2019 they drove with the German team at the Nations Cup in Uggerhalne. In 2021 they achieved a double victory at the CDI Troisdorf. Her international Grand Prix high score was reached at the CDI Lier 2020 with 70.869%.
retirement
At the CDI 2017, LierTimpe rode her last show on Don Darwin from January 13th to 15th, 2023 at CDN Münster. Their competitive partnership couldn’t have ended better as they won the Grand Prix kur to music on Sunday with a score of 77.200%.
“I am very sad that it is our last competition together, but also very happy that he is still so fit at the age of 20,” said Andrea Eurodressage. “He’s a very special horse to me because he’s very fixated on me and we have a special bond! Darwin gave me unique moments.”
Timpe, who has been in her family-owned stable in Hattingen (GER) since 1928, has a number of successors to Don Darwin in the line, including the Grand Prix horses Don Carismo (by Don Crusador x Carismo) and Friesenball ( by Furstenball x Sandro Hit), the small tour horses Dschingis Khan (by Don. Henrico x Fabriano) and First Class (by Fidertanz x Rouletto) as well as the latest addition to the auction High Fashion (by Helium x De Niro).
