Manchester City’s disappointment at their second consecutive defeat after the EFL Cup defeat by Southampton was only compounded by anger at the manner of defeat at Manchester United.
City were convinced Marcus Rashford was disrupting the game, despite not touching the ball when he put Casemiro’s pass ahead until Bruno Fernandes leveled.
Rashford’s eventual winner summed up a frustrating day for manager Pep Guardiola and his side after they took control after substitute Jack Grealish put them ahead on the hour.
City have improved after the defeat at St Mary’s but the champions still don’t play with their usual dexterity, in fact it was a day when even Erling Haaland couldn’t make his impact and just 19 touches and five in the box from United scored.
Arsenal now have a chance to extend City’s miserable weekend when the leaders travel to Tottenham on Sunday, where the win will open an eight-point gap at the top of the table.
