Altrincham 2-3 Gateshead: Macaulay Langstaff scores injury winner

Macaulay Langstaff scored a winning goal in stoppage time when Gateshead of the National League North won a home game in the second round of the FA Cup against Charlton Athletic by beating Altrincham.

And in the 21st minute they found themselves behind again when Langstaff shot into the house with a volley after a knockdown from Matty Jacob.

It was no more than Heed deserved after the striker earlier forced Tony Thompson into a great save with a left-footed shot.

A poor equalizer from opponent Jacob Ch -man led to an Altrincham equalization as Josh Hancock coolly converted his fifth goal of the season into an empty goal.

Hancock was injured after the break and Gateshead regained the lead two minutes later when Dan Ward made a touch just outside the box before taking a neat shot in the corner.

It looked like that would be enough for Gateshead – who made it through the third round in 2014-15 – but substitute Dan Mooney scored for National League Alty with a deflected left shot that looked like the tie would go into overtime .

Langstaff remained a threat, however, and after Thompson was fended off twice, he finally found a way past the keeper in the first minute of stoppage time with an iron shot into the upper corner.
