The stage is set as the Kansas City Chiefs (16-3) and Philadelphia Eagles (16-3) go head-to-head for the title of this year’s Super Bowl champion. With Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts only meeting for the second time in their careers, odds makers are currently giving the Philly signal caller a slight nod on his Super Bowl debut.
The consensus was split when betting shops first released their Super Bowl odds, with some shops lining the Chiefs as minor favorites. However, it wasn’t long before early betting action kicked in to quickly see most books put the -1.5 favorite tag on the Eagles.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Overall
Patrick Mahomes is starting the Super Bowl for the third time in four years, and while he only has one ring to his name, his team has a distinct advantage when it comes to big-game experience. The team is already familiar with the unique cadence of the Super Bowl, from the grueling media tour and extensive pregame and halftime activities. If these two teams are as balanced as many analysts are suggesting, the composure factor will likely favor Kansas City.
Composure has already made its mark in this clash, with the majority of bettors supporting the Eagles simply based on recent performances. Philly dominated the playoffs and made it easy for the Giants and 49ers. While the Eagles outplayed those two opponents 69-14, there’s no ignoring the fact that the 49ers were without quarterback and were declared dead.
Most of the conversation around the Chiefs in recent weeks has revolved around the team’s injury concerns. Concerns over Mahome’s high ankle sprain dominated the headlines and the team saw a number of receivers and defenders sidelined in their AFC title fight against an impressive Bengals team.
Bettors believe the headlines and many believe they are betting on a hot Eagles team versus an injured Chiefs team, led by a quarterback handicapped with a leg injury.
“The trend has been pretty consistent since we opened,” shared BetOnline odds manager Adam Burns when asked about the strong bias towards Philadelphia. “Whatever line we cling to, the majority of the public still supports the Eagles. Unless some very significant bets come in from Sharps on Chiefs before game time, I can see that line ending up maybe -2 or -2.5 by game time. All my friends ask me who I like and who to bet on. All I can say is that the book needs the chiefs on the money line, spread and futures markets, so take that for what it’s worth.”
Sunday will undoubtedly see the largest amount of money wagered before kick-off, and those looking to support the Eagles should get their bets in before the line moves any further.
Still, I like the Chiefs in this situation, and the thought of an extra half point makes me wait until Sunday before supporting them to cover the game and ultimately win the game.
